Grandpa Dickson's visit

Grandpa came in Thursday evening just in time to catch one of Dayna's soccer games. They were playing a team that they had lost to before in the season. 

The girls played hard and tied 0-0. We had a few really close shots but the girls were pretty proud to have played so well against a tough team. 

Dayna ran hard, as you can see by the color of her face. She really like having Grandpa there to watch her play. 

Of course the other kids are not to be forgotten, Lani is always quick to strike a pose for the camera.

Dax caught up with one of his really good buddies that moved to Spokane. The Flynns were in town so they dropped Kodyn off for the game. The kids ran and tackled each other all game long. It was a fun reunion for them. It looks like Lani got into the action as well based on the picture below.

Grandpa stayed for Dax's baseball game on Saturday morning. It was another pretty Spring morning. Dax had a few good hits and actually grounded a ball and threw the ball to the first baseman who actually caught the ball for a legitimate out if such a thing existed for them at this age. 

Grandpa told Dax that Diego plays for the A's too, that made him excited. Dax got his pictures along with some baseball cards of himself, he has autographed a few of them already and sent them to his fans. 

After the baseball game we went out for a walk and some fun at Walla Walla Point park. It is right on the banks of the Columbia River, it has a playground and lots of green grass to play in. We went for a short walk out on a gravel peninsula that separates the mighty Columbia from a swimming lagoon. 

There were lots of rocks for the kids to throw. Avery found a comfortable place to sit and take it all in. 

Grandpa took the chance to share some of his botanical knowledge with Dayna. He taught her about Maple trees, horsetails, comfry, and various evergreen trees. Dayna loves to learn new things, so she soaked it all up and took home sample specimens to study later. 

 This is a strange little piece of art out at the park, it shows a coyote leading the salmon up stream. It is an old Indian legend, but now makes for a good picture opportunity.

The kids had a lot of fun with Grandpa and missed Grandma a lot. It was nice to have him over for the weekend and I think he enjoyed seeing the kids in their weekend activities. 

Janelle made a funny comment. She asked how there were still rocks on the peninsula when people (mostly kids) are throwing them into the river all day long. Maybe the river rock fairy brings them out of the water and replenishes the banks with rocks, who knows. What we do know is that these kids could throw rocks into the water all day long. I wanted to walk to the end of the peninsula before letting the kids throw the rocks, Dax kept asking are we there yet, is this a good place to throw rocks? The kid could hardly contain himself.
