Wenatchee had its first ever rails and ales event this past weekend. We saw that they were dropping truck loads of snow in downtown Wenatchee and placing a couple of rails with a small ski jump. They invited snowboarders and skiers from the area and from across the state to participate. The participants performed tricks and jumps in downtown Wenatchee. We had a front row view, the kids enjoyed giving the participants High 5s as they walked back up to the top of the hill for their next run. It was a unique event, we had a lot of fun with the experience.
Avery loves the snow, we went up sledding this past weekend to Squilchuck park. It is located above Wenatchee on your way to Mission Ridge Ski resort. It is about 25 minutes from our house. They have been getting quite a lot of snow in the surrounding mtns this past week or so. It was a recommendation from a friend. There was one other family when we arrived at the hill and for about 45 minutes we had the hill to ourselves. The kids enjoyed hearing their echoes as they would shout out into the surrounding wilderness. The hill was actually pretty intense, a very long fast ride. Dayna wasn't feeling the greatest, Dax enjoyed tumbling down the hill, Lani wiped out a couple times and wasn't thrilled about it, but Avery seemed to ejoy the slow paced runs with Janelle.
Dax had plenty of epic wipeouts, some more spontaneous than others, I got the feeling that he wanted to see if he could have a more dramatic wipeout than his last. He knows how to have fun. No matter the condition of the snow he can't help but grab a handful and take a bite, it's funny because he's thinks he's so sneaky about it.
Avery loved going down the hill with Dayna. Dayna and Janelle had to drag their feet and hands to prevent themselves from going too fast down the hill. It was very slick and steep, but with some resistance they were able to slow the pace and enjoy the bumpy ride. Avery would come up to Dayna and ask if she would sled with her, it was very cute and Dayna did a great job despite being diagnosed with walking pneumonia earlier in the day. We brought hot chocolate and snacks. They had some picnic tables covered in snow that we were able to sit down and rest at.
Late in the adventure we discovered the "bunny hill". Janelle enjoyed going down on her belly with Avery and then they eventually added Lani to the mix. Avery was giggles and laughs the whole way.
